Prayer times on your iPhone Lock Screen & Home Screen

The best prayer app is the one you don't have to open. Widgets put the next prayer one glance away.

You check your iPhone dozens of times a day — the Lock Screen is the single most-seen surface you own. Putting the next prayer and its time right there means you never have to wonder, calculate, or open an app. This guide shows how to set it up with Vaktim's widgets.

What the Vaktim widget shows

Vaktim's widgets show the next upcoming prayer — its name and exact start time — and stay current all day as one prayer passes to the next. Two placements are available:

  • Home Screen widget — a card among your apps, visible whenever you unlock.
  • Lock Screen widget — visible without unlocking, right under the clock.

Crucially, the widget uses the same on-device calculation as the app — Diyanet method, your madhhab, and any manual per-prayer adjustments you've set. What the widget says is exactly what the app says.

How to add the widget, step by step

Do it with Vaktim (free, iPhone)

Home Screen:

  1. Install Vaktim and complete onboarding (location set, prayer times showing).
  2. Long-press an empty area of your Home Screen until apps jiggle.
  3. Tap the + in the top corner and search for Vaktim.
  4. Add the Next Prayer widget and place it where you'll see it.

Lock Screen:

  1. Long-press your Lock Screen and tap Customize.
  2. Select the widget area under the clock.
  3. Choose Vaktim and add the next-prayer widget.

Why a widget beats checking a website

  • Zero friction: no search, no loading, no unlocking (Lock Screen).
  • Always your location: the widget reflects the coordinates the app calculated for — travel, refresh location, and the widget follows.
  • Works offline: times are computed on-device, so the widget doesn't care whether you have signal.
  • Pairs with reminders: the widget answers "when is it?", and adhan notifications handle "it's now".

Widget not showing or says "Set up Vaktim"?

  • Open the app once so your location and prayer times are set — the widget needs the app configured first.
  • Widgets require a proper App Store (or development) build of Vaktim — they are an iOS extension, not part of the preview environment.
  • If a time looks off, open the app to refresh, and check your madhhab setting and adjustments.
